Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store
-
Japan's first department store
-
Founded in 1673 in the Edo period as a draper's shop, "Echigoya," the store was the first in Japan to sell goods with a price tag, which has become an ordinary business practice in modern society. In1904, Mitsukoshi issued the Department Store Declaration, which started the history of department stores in Japan. In 2016, the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Building was designated as a national Important Cultural Property.
